Hot Dish: The Work Edition

Jobs! What's not to like?

Thankfully, lots!

Our upcoming Hot Dish, which will take place at 7:30pm on Thursday, September 29 at the Trylon Microcinema in Minneapolis, will feature 6 true stories about work-- at its worst, best, and most entertaining.

We'll hear from Jacob Wheeler about his summer as a golf cart chauffeur, after which he wrote a scintillating expose.

Maggie Ryan Sandford will make us groan as she recalls her highly sought-after position selling Scarface posters on behalf of a "Philly white guy" boss who considered himself pretty dope.

Hot Dish veteran Michele Campbell will teach us, as she once taught a group of Japanese students at Beloit College, how to swear.

Hot Dish co-founder Eric Larson will take the stage for the first time to tell us about the dark side of being an ice cream man in Portland, Oregon.

And Jon Spayde, back for another Hot Dish, will take us back to his life in the 1980s helping a dysfunctional Japanese educational institution, well, do whatever it is they were trying to do. It may or may not have been legal.

And of course the final teller will be one of you brave souls-- so start thinking up your funny, weird, sad, inspiring, raw, and otherwise relatable tales about your work life now. We'll pick the "7th Teller" randomly from a list of volunteers.

Announcing Hot Dish Deux

It's on, folks. Barry over at the Trylon Microcinema has just informed us, Andi and Eric - i.e. the Story Farmers - that we will be welcomed back to his 50-seat theater for our second go at producing Hot Dish, our local, organic storytelling series devoted to true all things Midwestern. Mark your calendars for a 7:30pm showtime (doors at 7) on Thursday, September 29th.

Our theme this time will be "On The Clock: True Tales of Hard Work and Hardly Working." So, while we're busy playing town-crier, putting together postcards and trying to figure out the shape of the cookies this time around (hammer and sickle, anyone?) look deep into your well of experience and see you've got anything that fits the bill.

A couple news items to share today-- one is that tickets are almost sold out for our very first Hot Dish, on February 14 at the Trylon Microcinema in South Minneapolis. Believe it! There's still a handful left, so get yours now!

And for those of you out-of-towners who WISH you lived in Minneapolis, but worry that you couldn't hack the sub-zero temperatures, we've got an option for you, too. Our dear pal, Jacob Wheeler, political reporter for the innovative local video journalism outfit The Uptake, has arranged for Hot Dish to be streamed live online. Seriously! So, if you're one of those people who would rather never change out of your pajamas, this may be the option for you! Plus, it's free.(Though if you're local, it should be said that we certainly prefer warm bodies).

Announcing...the very first Hot Dish!

Welcome to Hot Dish, a Twin Cities storytelling event debuting February 14, 2011 at 7:30 pm. The event, a Story Farm production, will feature 6 local folks telling true personal stories without the aid of notes. In other words-- our storytellers won't be reading their stories, or "performing" them, but rather, it'll feel a bit like a dinner party.
